Journal Seven from Dathan

The two places that I look through the most were...
The Poetry Foundation
and
Web del sol

I liked The Poetry Foundation better. It was mostly because of the set up of the sites themselves. The Poetry Foundation seemed to have a better arrangement of things and Web del sol seemed to at least look cheaper, less user friendly, like it had more adds. They both had a good catalog of poems, you can really get lost.

How Quiet

Related Poem Content Details

How quiet is the spruce,
the wind twills
through the uppermost tier
of splayed leaves.
Now the song of a bird
like the squeaky lock
over a canoe's oar,
followed by startling chirps,
the sky pushing its clouds
like sailboats,
and I think, what kind of God
keeps himself secret
so that to find him out
we have to seek, as children do
for something like the beetle
scuttling between grass,
hidden in plain sight.
I chose this poem because when I read it I saw a nice image in my head. It was like I was in a canoe on a slow flowing river surrounded by trees. It does sound a little stupid when I put it that way, but if it sounds completely stupid to you then you have never gone canoeing.

  1. I really enjoyed the imagery in the poem you selected. It had quite a few sounds such as the rusting of leaves and the sounds of birds echoing that enhanced the experience. Good luck with your future poems, I enjoyed reading and seeing how your poems progressed.
