  1. Brooke, I really enjoyed your presentation. I've always admired Emily for not writing for fame, but really writing for herself and for the truth so I loved how you touched base on that whole point. I loved looking through the Envelope book that you brought, it was super interesting and cool to see her handwriting and where she would scratch down a few good lines of poetry.
My favorite poem of hers- and actually the only poem I have memorized is

    "Faith" is a fine invention
    When Gentlemen can see -
    But Microscopes are prudent
    In an Emergency.

One thing to maybe think about for future presentations is getting the audience more involved. For example, maybe you could have got us involved by asking us to raise our hands if we were taught Dickinson in school or something like that.

Overall, you did an awesome job and seemed very prepared!

  2. Brooke, you had a wonderful presentation about Emily Dickinson. Your slides were very well put together and put just enough information so you weren't just reading off the screen. I loved learning about her upbringing and thought it was cool that she went to Amherst Academy since Robert Frost taught there, it was cool to have our presentations crossover. I also liked how you described her style and all of her themes that she used in her poems while giving specific examples of where she used said theme/style, very impressive and organized. Overall I think you did a wonderful job analyzing and teaching the class about such an important poetry and literary figure in history. Kudos.

  3. You did a good job presenting. You knew exactly where you were going with it, and if you didn't you hid it well; the only person with note cards. The only thing I would say against you would be... we didn't spend too much time on her poems. I thought you went at a good pace; you were going quick but it didn't seem like you were rushing and not too fast for us to fall behind. That last one might not seem like too great of an accomplish but it is.

  4. Brooke, you did a very good job on your presentation. You had a lot of information on Emily Dickinson. I really liked the idea of of being "with hope" and "without hope" When you first mentioned it, i didn't understand what it meant but then you explained that she wasn't wanting to live by the christian expectations and questions God and faith. The only thing i would improve on is you were reading directly from the power point a lot. You fixed it a bit by adding on more information that was not on the board. Over all, Good Job!

  5. I think you did an incredible job with giving the audience an understanding of Emily and how she viewed the world. You expressed her perspective of religion, fame, and freedom of the stereotypical christian mother flawlessly. I think you expressed all of her views with the poems you chose to share with the class and provided lots of quotes to help establish her tone and style. Great Job!
The only critique I have would of been to not read off of the slides and use the notes that you had more often! Other than that, I felt like you knew tons about Emily and I really enjoyed hearing about her. The book was a great idea too!

  6. Brooke, you did such a great job of giving a very informative overview of her life. It was interesting to learn about her religious views and how she felt as an outsider in her early learning and later in life. Also having a close relationship with a pastor when she had strong conflicting views. Turning to letters as a form of communicating her poems was unique since letters are very personal. Her themes were very strong in tackling taboo subjects such as grief and death. The fact that her poems were changed after her death to fit what others perceived as correct is mind blowing. A few more pictures would have helped in placing this strong literary figure with a face but overall great job!

  7. Brooke did a great job explaining Emily Dickerson. I was very impressed on how much details she knew about Dickerson. She included information about her before and after school, her introduction to writing, her return home, her relationships, style and criticisms. I was surprised that Dickerson wrote approximately 1800 poems before her death in 1886. I like how Brooke choose two of Dickerson's famous poems to read in class. My favorite line from one of the poem is "Hope is the thing with feathers-That preaches in the soul."
One interesting thing I learned about Dickerson is her style, she uses a lot of hyphens and she randomly captiliazes words in her poems. I really like how Brooke brought in a actual book of Dickerson's poems in class so we can see. One small criticism I have was the font was hard to read in the presentation, other than that I think Brooke did a excellent job.
